Stephane Diemert had been hired in France in 2014 by the then president Gaston Flosse to run the High Council, which was set up to vet local laws akin to the French Supreme Court.

However, the High Council was dogged by problems.

Its formation was first annulled in a Paris court decision before Flosse's successor Edouard Fritch two years ago disestablished the Council altogether.

Disputes over Mr Diemert's remuneration have remained unresolved and he is now seeking payment of $US100,000.

Tahiti-infos says a ruling could be made within two weeks.
