The attorney general Lemalu Herman Retzlaff told the Samoa Observer that his office was satisfied the public interest had been served as the guilty verdict against Fonotoe still stood.

Lemalu said, in effect, Fonotoe was found guilty in the District Court and his appeal against conviction was dismissed by Justice Tuatagaloa.

The Attorney-General said the views of the Ministry of Police and the commissioner had been sought on the matter.
