The Chief of Operations Rusiate Tudravu said the incidents have raised serious concern for the safety of officers while on duty.

Assistant Commissioner Tudravu said in Kadavu three men threw stones at and threatened some officers who were looking for a marijuana plantation.

Two of the men escaped while the third was arrested and police later seized close to one thousand plants.

Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho said work began two years ago on a special team, including partrol boats, to immediately respond to such incidents and this team has been initiated.

Mr Tudravu said there were two other incidents on the weekend in which people showed a blatant disregard for officers trying to tackle crime.

He said the police didn't want officers in the outer Islands to be victimised.

He said police had the resources, boats and capabilities, including the ability to hire planes to carry our work in any part of Fiji if they need to teach members of the community to be law abiding citizens.
