Sport: PNG Hunters starting spots up for grabs vs Broncos

11:51 am on 24 February 2018

Papua New Guinea Hunters rugby league coach Michael Marum says today's trial match against the Brisbane Broncos is a chance for players to press their claims for selection.

The Queensland Cup champions begin their title defence in two weeks against the Ipswich Jets in Port Moresby.

Today's clash at the National Football Stadium is the Hunters only pre-season hit-out.

Michael Marum said he was not too worried about the scoreline but expects the hosts to give 100 percent.

"They're fighting for a spot in the round one game (against Ipswich) so that's what they're going out there to do. Broncos (will be a) tough one: they've played two trial games already, they had a good win last weekend against the (Gold Coast) Titans so it will be tough up here," he said.

"I know they're coming up (to Port Moresby) with a full-strength team. This is the last trial game before we play our round one game so we just want to go out there and stick to our gameplan and see if our combinations work during the game."
