The World Data Atlas shows that in 2004 around 27 per cent of Palauns were internet users and this number continues to grow according to Palau Telecoms.

The global satellite operator SES network have been providing fibre speed internet via satellite for Palau Telecoms since 2014.

Network Engineer for Palau Telecoms, Rudolph Calabardo, said the network has extended its contract with Palau Telecoms until 2020 and increased the amount of satellite connectivity by 150 per cent.

Mr Calabardo said the O3B satellite from the SES network has resulted in a faster, stronger Internet connection that is uninterrupted.

"Before we are connected with our Internet link in Palau is connected with the satelite C-band link and then when it comes to 2014, O3B [satellite] comes and it improves the connectivity because the Internet speed become 4 times faster than the C-band before," said Rudolph Calabardo.

He said this will meet the increasing demand from internet users in the country.
