Fiji have lost 19-7 to the USA team in the semi finals of the Las Vegas rugby sevens tournament this morning.

An early try by workhorse Sevuloni Nocenacagi was soon erased by a Perry Baker double, including a length of the field effort and a Matai Leuta try.

US forward Danny Barrett said it was great to beat a side with the calibre of Fiji.

"It's pretty good. This is the fourth year in the semi-final and we got knocked out in the last three so to get over that hump," Barrett said.

"Going down early and coming back, really putting that effort in, fighting for each other.

"Getting that 'W' [win] is pretty awesome."

Danny Barrett's side will take on Argentina in the cup final after they upset the defending champions South Africa by 12-10.

The US team have never won their home tournament.

Fiji will now play South Africa in the bronze medal match.
