The prosecution in French Polynesia wants a rape suspect to be held in custody as part of a larger probe into a prostitution network.

The director of a major construction company was one of ten people detained last week but after being charged with rape he was set free.

The prostituton network was allegedly organised by three women who used a Tahiti hotel as well as apartments.

Investigations revealed that girls as young as 14 worked as prostitutes in exchange for either money or methamphetamine.
