Currently the system is a Tropical Low developing north of Nhulunbuy in Australia and its expected to move into waters between Australia and PNG over the weekend.

The low could lead to strong gale force winds and high seas with the potential to produce heavy rainfall in Western, Gulf and Highlands region and Torres Strait Islands.

Gale winds and high seas have also been predicted for West Sepik, East Sepik and Madang coastal areas and the Bismarck Sea.

The Post Courier has reported the National Disaster Office is warning communities to prepare their homes, gardens and families for a possible cyclone and decide on where they can safely shelter.

Meanwhile another tropical low has formed to the northwest of Vanuatu and is moving in a southeasterly direction.

The Vanuatu weather office said there is a moderate chance of it becoming a cyclone over the weekend.

The system is moving southeast at 8 kilometres an hour.
