A leading New Caledonian anti-independence politician, Pierre Frogier, says he will not have anything to do with plans to draw up a charter of New Caledonian values.

Mr Frogier, who is a member of the French Senate, was speaking in an interview with Les Nouvelles Caledoniennes as the territory nears a referendum on independence from France in November.
At the behest of France's prime minister, a group of top leaders was set up group to discuss the referendum's aftermath and to draw up a charter which all sides can approve
But such a charter was likely to cause confusion and contribute to voters abstaining, said Mr Frogier whose ambition is to get a "massive" no to independence.
While the outcome of a vote was never certain, Mr Frogier said he hoped the rejection of independence would be so decisive that there would be no further attempt for such a vote.
