People in Fiji affected by recent floods in the Western Division will soon receive assistance from the Fijian community in New Zealand.

Fiji's Honorary Consul in Auckland, Harish Lodhia, has helped organise the aid loaded in two 20-foot containers on their way to Fiji.

Mr Lodhia said the generosity of the New Zealand community and volunteers in Auckland was amazing.

The aid combined the efforts and sponsorship of Neptune Shipping, the Fiji Senior Citizen Group and Friends Reaching Out, a humanitarian group dedicated to alleviating the plight of flood-affected people in Fiji.

The Fiji High Commission in Wellington is working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Suva to lobby for customs duty waivers.

The containers contain clothing, plastic tubs and buckets, non-perishable packaged food items such as flour, canned food, cooking oils, bottled water, rice and other items.

Much of the assistance is targeted towards affected families in Ba.
