The Papua New Guinea Hunters rugby league team are back to winning ways after a late try secured a vital 18-16 victory over the Wynnum Manly Seagulls.

The Hunters went behind twice in the first half at BMD Kougari Oval but responded with tries from centre Willie Minoga and halfback Watson Boas to go into the break level at 12-all.

Captain Ase Boas put the visitors in front for the first time with a penalty goal in the 43rd minute.

Winger Daniel Ogden restored the home advantage with a 64th minute try before Willie Minoga score his second, the match-winner, with four minutes remaining.

The Hunters' first win in five matches lifts them off the bottom of the Intrust Super Cup ladder, above the Mackay Cutters and Central Queensland Capras, who they host this weekend.
