The police in Samoa have launched an investigation following a complaint alleging corrupt practises by the chief executive of a state entity.

Samoa's Attorney General Lemalu Herman Reztlaff said the allegations were serious and that he referred the complaint to police after receiving them on Tuesday.
He said the Minister overseeing the chief executive, the Acting Prime Minister and also the Prime Minister, who is on travel duty, had been informed of the investigation.
Lemalu said he could not reveal details of the allegations as the matter was now the subject of a police investigation.
But he said the public should be assured that as soon as the complaint was received it was immediately acted upon to remove any suggestion of preferential treatment and to make it clear that no one was considered above the law.
