Poll suggests Fiji voters are ready for female PM

A survey in Fiji has found an overwhelming majority of those polled say Fiji is ready for a female prime minister.

The Fiji Times reports 70 percent of 1053 people who took part in the latest Tebbutt-Times poll said "yes" to the question.

The most popular choice was the opposition leader Ro teimumu Kepa who received 49 percent support.

The second choice was lawyer Lynda Tabuya who is a provisional candidate for the same party on 14 percent.

The Minister for Health Rosy Akbar had 13 percent support, polling 13 percent.

The poll was taken between May 10 and May 17.
