Type 2 dengue case in French Polynesia

11:02 am on 12 June 2018

An alert has been issued in French Polynesia after a person has been diagnosed with Type 2 dengue.

The diagnosis was made on the island of Raiatea and marks the first type 2 infection since 2000.

The health authorities say the population has little immunity and efforts need to be made to stop the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.

They have called for mosquito breeding sites to be eliminated and for people to use repellents.
