Increasing the understanding of Pacific legal issues is the aim of the Pacific Law and Culture Conference being held this week at New Zealand's Canterbury University.

Participants include legal practitioners and students eager to share lessons learned in their respective Pacific island countries.
Among the guest speakers was Vanuatu Supreme Court judge Daniel Fatiaki.
The president of the Pacific Island Law Students Assocation at Otago University, Nera Tautau, said the conference is important for the legal sector.
"I think this might be the biggest gathering of Pacific law students and academics and practitioners in New Zealand and so it is a great opportunity for us to all meet and network with each other and talk about our ideas, voices and issues about Pacific," Nera Tautau.
Nera Tautau said there is a significant increase in the number of Pacific people interested in the legal profession due to events like the conference.
