A teenager in French Polynesia has been detained after hacking into the systems of two local telecommunication companies for months.
Media reports say he was caught by cyber security experts from France after the company OPT lodged an official complaint.
Once in custody, the teenager admitted to hacking into the systems of both OPT and Vini, and troubling their services.
The teenager is being dealt with by the youth justice system.
For adults, a hacking charge carries a prison sentence of up to five years and a $US90,000 fine.
