Steve Tuatoo was arrested in Washington State in November, following a police raid on his home where drugs were found.

Two others who were arrested in connection with the raid are on trial in the United States.

The Commissioner of Public Safety, Le'i Sonny Thompson, said the territory's governor had filed the extradition request with Washington authorities, and Mr Tuatoo will be returned to the islands soon.

He will be returned after he is sentenced tomorrow on a domestic violence charge, to which he pleaded guilty.
