Health clinic plan surprises American Samoa govt

1:47 pm on 17 July 2018

The government of American Samoa has never received a proposal from a group wanting to set up a medical clinic, the governor says.

Nor has the government leased the group any land, Lolo Matalasi Moliga said.

This announcement followed reports that Mission of Hope Ministries in South Carolina planned to build the new facility.

A local church pastor, Vaifanua Mulitauaopele, had said the government land had been secured at Tafuna's Lions Park.

The ground breaking was scheduled for 5 July but the governor said he was surprised when the group contacted him the day before.

There was still a legal process to go through, Lolo said he told the group.
