A woman in Fiji has been remanded in custody in relation to trafficking workers to New Zealand.

The 31-year-old was arrested in Suva last Thursday and is to reappear in the High Court at Suva on September 3.

FBC News reported she was charged with 11 counts of obtaining property by deception and one count of money laundering.

Her sister who lives in Australia has been charged in absentia and an arrest warrant was expected to be filed.

The pair are alleged to have helped in the trafficking of 17 victims in 2014.

The women are accused of receiving money from Faroz Ali who was convicted in 2016 of human trafficking offences.
