Leaders at all levels of Kiribati society have been invited to publicly sign two pledges on climate action and fighting corruption at an event in Tarawa today.

About 200 people from 40 Kiribati communities are expected to march to the national sports stadium at Bairiki to witness the signing ceremony.
The two pledges are actually global campaigns.
Rise for Pacific Pawa is sponsored by the 350 organisation and calls on all leaders to commit to transitioning to 100 percent renewable energy by the year 2020.
And rise for Anti-Corruption is sponsored by the United Nations Pacific Regional Anti-Corruption Project and seeks committment from leaders to stamp out corruption in their respective institutions.
The event is being organised locally by the Kiribati Climate Action Network and Kiribati Islands Corruption Kickers in partnership with the Pacific Climate Warriors.
KiriCAN's national coordinator Pelenise Alofa says they have invited leaders from parliament, the private sector, churches and local communities to sign the pledges.
"In Kiribati this is our action we are getting our parliamentarians to come, we are getting our private sector people to come, we are getting our church leaders to come and sign this anti-corruption and renewable energy," said Pelenise Alofa.
Similar events are taking place all around the Pacific today in support of the climate action pledge.
