The administrative court in French Polynesia has ordered the French state to pay more than $US110,000 in compensation to a former military officer.

The man had developed several cancers after serving on Hao atoll between 1966 and 1971.
During his stays a total of 19 nuclear weapons tests were carried out at Fangataufa and Moruroa.
In 2011, he sought compensation under the provisions of a new law introduced nine years ago but the compensation commission as well as the defence ministry rejected his applications.
Tahiti-infos reported that in 2013 he turned to the administrative court which two years later ordered the French state to pay him a preliminary sum of $US20,000.
Experts have now determine the final figure of more than $US110,000.
