The re-elected Cook Islands government has made protecting vulnerable infrastructure from climate change one of its key priorities.

In his speech from the throne to mark the start of the new parliament after the elections, the Queen's Representative Tom Marsters outlined measures to reduce the country's vulnerability.
Mr Marsters said the government, private sector, communities and households have the ability to adapt to changes, and anticipate and absorb shocks when they do happen.
The government will seek money from the Green Climate Fund to climate-proof the country's ports, airports and buildings, and improve meteorological and hydrological services.
