LPV candidate leading Tanna count in Vanuatu

Unofficial results from Tanna show the Leaders Party of Vanuatu candidate to be leading the count in the by-election to fill the seat vacated by former Deputy Prime Minister, Joe Natuman.

The Daily Post newspaper reported that LVP candidate Jimmy Nipo is leading with at least 3,800 votes.

The candidate from Mr Natuman's Vanuaaku Pati is in second place.

Mr Nipo used to work at the New Zealand High Commission in Port Vila.

LPV President Jotham Napat, who is also Minister of Infrastructure and Public Utilities, has not commented on the early results.

Mr Napat is from Tanna and has a strong following on the island.
