Vanuatu businesses face prosecution for not paying NPF contributions

Vanuatu's Public Prosecutions Office says it intends to start prosecuting businesses which have not paid their workers' contributions to the NPF or National Provident Fund.

The Daily Post Newspaper has named a number of prominent businesses including construction companies which owe thousands of dollars in unpaid fees to the Fund.

The Acting Director General of the Ministry of Justice and Community Service, Pacco Siri, said the process was in line with a Council of Ministers decision.

Mr Siri said the council had ordered a criminal task force be set up to further investigate.

An expatriate businesswoman had admitted to the Magistrate Court to failing to pay her workers' contributions to the Fund.

The case has been adjourned for sentencing until December.
