NZ govt encourages Pacific youth to study STEM subjects

The New Zealand Government is encouraging Pacific youth to choose careers in science, technology, engineering and maths.

It has opened applications for the Toloa Community Fund which has $US65,000 available to help inspire Pacific students into STEM related careers.

The Minister of Pacific People, Aupito William Sio, Pacific people are under represented in these workforces.

He said they needed communities to champion these high-value career pathways, which are projected to grow as New Zealand becomes an increasingly knowledge-based economy.

The Toloa Community Fund is part of a three-pronged approach to get Pacific students into STEM subjects, alongside the Toloa Tertiary Scholarships, and the Toloa Kenese Club programme.
