An International Health and Medical Services spokesperson says the officer breached the rules of the detention centre in Nauru.

She is leaving Nauru today and a replacement is already on-island.

The spokesperson said there had been no impact on medical services provided to refugees and asylum seekers.

The senior medical officer was contracted by the Australian government to look after the health of refugees and asylum seekers in Nauru.

The removal comes as nearly 6000 Australian doctors petition their government to remove all children from the camps.

Last week Doctors Without Borders was forced off the island and ceased providing mental health care for refugees and locals on the island.
