A flood alert has been issued for low lying areas in Fiji and disaster authorities are advising people to be prepared with heavy rain forecast across the country.
The Ministry of National Disaster Management said people in high risk areas should heed warnings and make preparations to evacuate to higher ground well before any flood waters rise.
The ministry said due to the forecast rain, parents should think carefully before sending their children to school, and they have been told to keep children away from flooded drains or waterways.
People have also been advised to prepare emergency supplies and to make sure they know where the nearest evacuation centre is.
Small boat owners have been warned not to venture out into rough seas.
The heavy rain is expected to continue over the next few days.
