Auki police operation manager Fredrick Pado confirmed the seizure on Wednesday.

He said the operation was carried out following a tip-off from the community leaders.

"This is an example where community leaders take the leading role in reporting the matter and helping the police to get rid of these plants," he said.

Mr Pado said that no arrests were made over the plants yet, police were aware of who had planted them.

He said investigations were continuing and those those behind growing the plants will be arrested later.
