The US government has given the CNMI $US11 million to help workers who were laid off or have been working shorter hours as a result of Super Typhoon Yutu or Typhoon Mangkhut.

Yutu devastated Saipan and Tinian in October, while Mangkhut hit Rota in September.

The CNMI Department of Labor said it had requested and received the money for its Disaster Unemployment Aid program and that it would use the funds to help 3000 affected workers.

Eligible workers will be given about $US336 each.

As of last Thursday, a total of 1800 applications had been submitted, the department said.
