Three police officers have been arrested in Papua New Guinea, accused of killing a church leader in the Highlands town of Mt Hagen.

John Kama was set upon by six drunken police officers and kicked and beaten as he walked home from Christmas Day services last week.

He died of his injuries in Mt Hagen Hospital.

The Western Highlands police commander, Jacob Kamiak, confirmed the arrests, adding that an investigation into the attack is continuing.
