Police brutality tops the list of offences that have seen the Papua New Guinea state face $US38 million worth of litigation.

The Post Courier newspaper reported police brutality and the constabulary violating constitutional rights topped the offence list.
Police internal affairs directorate chief, Robert Ali, said the 8,000 cases extended from 1992 to 2016, with figures for the last two years still being collated.
The amount of litigation impacted on budget allocations to police, he said.
