Mayor of Papua capital supports Gojek rollout

The mayor of Papua's provinicial capital, Jayapura, says the launch of a ride-hailing service will help the region become a "smart city".

Local media report Indonesian start-up Gojek launched last week in Jayapura.

The company says it will prioritise local drivers as partners and offer services including taxi, food delivery and courier services.

Jayapura Mayor Benhur Tommy Mano says he hopes the public will support Gojek because it will improve the lives of informal workers.
