The Anglican church in Fiji says the country's faith-based schools are simply asking for recognition from the government.

The church's Vicar-General, Orisi Vuki, was responding to debate over the appointment of school principals in Fiji which the education ministry says should be in line with its Open Merit Recruitment System.
The Catholic Church is considering closing its schools after the government appointed non-Catholics to two of its colleges.
Reverend Orisi Vuki said more than 90 percent of the schools are faith-based and have been run by the churches for many years.
"We the faith-based schools wanted the Education department just to recognise us, who we are who owns the school and we have seen the importance of faith in this journey.
"We are not pushing our faith. We're just asking that if we could be recognised.
"Once we are recognised then there's a table for us to come and share our talanoa (stories/views)."
