A businessman in Fiji is taking legal action to force the police to prosecute those responsible for his assault.

Rajneel Singh is accusing the force of shutting down an investigation into his case.

He says he has been beaten, threatened and harrassed by police several times since 2015 after passing details to authorities of purported plans to destabilise the government.

Mr Singh's wife, who wanted only to be known as Mrs Singh, says her husband is going to the courts as a last resort.

"From 2015, 16, 18, my husband has been lodging reports. What is the progress. What is the status? What is the classification? Why is the Commissioner of Police so silent?" she asked in an interview.

Mrs Singh says two men came to her home two weeks ago and told her if she wanted to live she should tell her husband to drop the case.

The Commissioner of Police has not responded to a request for comment.
