The body appeared at a new meeting of Pacific women leaders in the Marshall Islands this week.

Its first woman director general, Manumatavai Tupou-Roosen, said the agency would focus on improving financial literacy of its partners so they can in turn improve outcomes for women.

"The course will target processors in a number of our countries including PNG, Fiji and Kiribati and be delivered by local trainers. The right training can be a game-changer in women's lives."

Ms Tupou-Roosen said there were also plans to train up an all-women fishing crew, which would be another first for the region.
