Pacific looks for fisheries balance on ambitious motion

From , 5:03 am on 9 September 2016

Members of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature meeting in Hawaii this week are considering a controversial motion on fisheries protection.

Motion 53 could potentially close 30  of exclusive economic zones in the Pacific to the wider region's powerful fishing industry, particularly those from Asia.

The Pacific tuna industry is opposed to motion 53, warning it would devastate island economies if implemented.
