New Caledonia political future unclear after Paris meeting

New Caledonia's political future remains uncertain after the territory's leaders held their last meeting with the French prime minister before next year's French elections.

The roadmap to the independence referendum is the Noumea Accord which will expire in two years by which time a vote has to be held.

The basic but crucial question of who is allowed to vote is not resolved.
