From , 6:03 am on 8 December 2016

There is upset around the Pacific at a decision by the Australia Broadcasting Corporation to drop its shortwave radio services.

The ABC says it will stop shortwave services to the Pacific, and domestically, next month.

It calls the technology outdated and is promising to expand digital services with the savings it makes on dumping shortwave transmission.

But as Don Wiseman reports shortwave remains a vital communication link in remote areas of the Pacific.
