Samoa Observer questions media freedom

From , 3:02 pm on 27 April 2017

The editor of the Samoa Observer newspaper is worried about media freedom after police searched the paper's premises looking for the identity of an online blogger.

The police action followed the paper publishing a letter about a girl who showed signs on her body of the stigmata, or marks similar to those Jesus suffered in the crucifixion.

Mata'afa Keni Lesa told Sara Vui-Talitu that the police came after the girl's family complained and claimed the blogger's comment was defamatory and untrue.
