Biogas could move Tokelau renewable energy generation

From , 5:00 am on 10 July 2017

Tokelau's director of energy says the addition of biogas would likely provide an energy surplus for the country.

Robin Pene says along with the solar power generation currently providing 80 percent of Tokelau's electricity supply, wind turbines are being trialled.

He says if the trial data is proved correct and wind turbines are implemented, he expects renewable generation to move to 98 percent efficiency and beyond.

But as Mr Pene told Dominic Godfrey increased demand on power supply and infrastructure degradation has called for improvements to the existing photovoltaic cells and battery banks as well as new wind generation.
