Samoa's ombudsman says six-months into the year-long inquiry into domestic violence in the country has confirmed fears about the depth and magnitude of the issue.

Maiava Iulai Toma says he's pleased with the consultations with stakeholders from all sectors but most importantly with the Samoan public.

Maiava says phase one was completed in May with 17 consultations encompassing families and villages across Samoa.

He spoke with Dominic Godfrey.
