TINO VITALE: I think the way the ulu has decided not to get involved in that debate because there is currently an investigation going on, and we do not want to pre-empt the outcome of that investigation, so I think it was important that he was very clear about the relationship with New Zealand and the processes that he wants in place to ensure that what is being delivered or what is out in the media is a true reflection of what that relationship is.
DON WISEMAN: Is the Tokelau government entirely happy with its relationship with New Zealand?
TV: The statement to the UN De-Colonisation Committee states there's no problem with the relationship.
DW: The situation as it now?
TV: Yeah. Like every government there are issues, general issues. But as I said I can't speak on it but the relationship in itself, the documentation that I am reading, and the presentation that has been made by the Ulu, there is nothing wrong with it.
DW: The reason that I ask is there has been a lot of criticism and it has come from two very senior but now currently suspended public servants in the Tokelau administration and the Tokelau government here seems to be trying to obliquely slap them down.
TV: Well as I said there is an investigation going on. People are entitled to their opinion and we can't comment on the details they have given until the investigation is finished.
DW: Will these two staffers get their jobs back?
TV: I can't comment on that because that is strictly in the scope of the investigation. When that report is released we will all know.
DW: Is Tokelau happy with the current transport arrangements provided by the Mataliki ferry that New Zealand mostly paid for a couple of years ago. Is that enough? Is that adequate for Tokelau's needs at this point in time?
TV: Seems to be working fine. They have just reached agreement on a cargo vessel as well, so that's going to cover their cargo. Also air services were discussed a long, long time ago, but options are still being investigated.
DW: We are not going to touch on the subject of these two helicopters but this idea of having an air service, how front of mind is it for the people at the top of the Tokelau government.
TV: As I said this is very close to the area that is being investigated so I can't really comment.
