Integrity overrides convenience of govt for PNG MP

From , 6:02 am on 30 October 2017

Imagine you've just been elected to parliament for the first time.

Your political party stood on an anti-corruption platform motivated by removing the sitting government and energised legions of young voters.

The party emerged from the election greatly strengthened, but fell just short of forming the new government.

Then the majority of MPs in your party decide to follow their leader and join your political enemies in government, without you.

That's the story of Bryan Kramer, the MP for Madang in Papua New Guinea.

Mr Kramer says he decided not to join the Pangu Pati's defection because of his aim of removing the Peter O'Neill-led government

Bryan Kramer told Johnny Blades the splits caused by the defection in both the party's parliamentary wing and its executive remain officially unresolved.
