Fiji's population growth rate slows

From , 6:04 am on 23 January 2018

Fiji's population is growing at its lowest rate in thirty years and unemployment is the lowest recorded in 20 years.

That's according to the first results of last year's census released this month by Fiji's government.

A senior lecturer in economics at the University of the South Pacific, Neelesh Gounder, told Sally Round he's waiting for more figures to make sense of the trends.

He says the population's annual average growth rate is at 0.6 percent.
