Investigations into the Kiribati ferry disaster in January continue to point to failings on the part of the crew.

The 16 metre wooden catamaran, Butaraoi, sank soon after departing the island of Nonouti on January 18th.

At least 80 people died in the disaster.

A formal commission of inquiry is ongoing while the Kiribati maritime director, Ruoikabuti Tioon, has also been conducting his own investigation.

He told Don Wiseman his full report is yet to be completed.
