Restoration of Cook Islands soldiers' graves ongoing

An Australian woman who has been restoring graves on the coast of Rarotonga in the Cook Islands, says her work there will continue for some time.

Cate Walker's mother, Gloria, is buried in the cemetery and she says she first took an interest in the state of it after reports, some 20 years ago, that graves were washing away.

She says when she and her husband visited about four years ago they were stunned to find grave stones on the shore line and set about trying to repair the graveyard.

Ms Walker says she also located the graves of a number of Cook Islands veterans from World War One and organised for them to be restored in time for ANZAC Day last year.

Ms Walker told Don Wiseman it's been a team effort, with the Cook Islands government doing some of the work to restore the coast wall.
