A real estate business in Hawaii has redirected charity funds to help with recovery efforts after flash flooding devastated parts of Kaua'i county.

Last week, hundreds of people had to be airlifted out the worst affected areas such as Hanalei and evacuation centres were set up to help those most in need.

The Hawai'i Life Charitable Fund has collected at least $US37,000 dollars worth of donations from across the state.

Spokesperson Meghan Thibault told Sara Vui-Talitu the devastation caused by the deluge is a huge blow to local communities.
