Plight of refugees on Nauru, Manus highlghted in ANZAC message

From , 3:04 pm on 26 April 2018

An Australian priest has used Anzac Day to highlight the plight of refugees and asylum seekers held in detention centres in Nauru and Manus Island.

Over the years, Rod Bower has appealed to the government to close the centres and to accept refugees into Australia.

Father Bower has now posted a sign outside his church modifying a common Anzac phrase to say 'Lest We Forget, Manus and Nauru.'.

He told Koro Vaka'uta that he respects Anzac Day but believes the plight of refugees fits what the occasion stands for.
