Unicef: Thousands of children at risk of Vitamin A deficiency

From , 5:01 am on 7 May 2018

Thousands of children across the Pacific could be Vitamin A deficient, putting them at risk of a weakened immune system and other diseases.

A spokesperson for UNICEF in Fiji, Cate Heinrich, says two doses of Vitamin A every year can save children's lives at a relatively low cost, yet only about half the region's children receive it.

She says better diets can also help increase Vitamin A.

Ms Heinrich told Jamie Tahana coverage is as low as 25 percent in countries like Vanuatu.
