The United Nations Development Programme is to lead a two-year project to strengthen the capacity of the Nauru Electoral Commission.
The exercise aims to create a more inclusive and transparent electoral process.
The UN's regional director for Asia and the Pacific, Haoliang Xu, says it will help strengthen the electoral process as a whole, including civic education and voter awareness.
Mr Xu told Don Wiseman it's not that the UNDP had concerns about the electoral system in Nauru.
